Beyond the City: Who’s out there?

The Demography & Growth Planning team at Charles Darwin University is looking forward to welcoming you to Darwin in July 2018 for the 19th Australian Population Association Conference. Along with stimulating content and great networking opportunities, delegates will enjoy Darwin’s perfect dry season weather, its warm and laid-back atmosphere and some ‘only locals know’ highlights.

Together with the Australian Population Association, the Northern Institute's 'Demography and Growth Planning' research team are leading the organisation of the conference with generous support from the Northern Territory Department of Treasury and Finance and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Attendees will experience fantastic value for money and the warmth and culture of our beautiful Top End. We encourage academics, planners, policymakers, students and anyone with an interest in population-related issues to pencil in the dates of 18-20 July 2018.

Your Hosts

Northern Institute Demography & Growth Planning Team

Through applied research, the Demography and Growth Planning team strives to understand the causes and consequences of population change in sparsely populated areas of developed nations, with emphasis on the Northern Territory and northern Australia more broadly.

We aim to make a positive difference to policy, communities and society and our research which extends across the key fields of demography, migration studies, economics, gambling research and labour studies.

The Australian Population Association

The Australian Population Association (APA) was formed in 1980 and is Australia’s leading professional association for demographers. The main aims of the Association are:

  • To encourage the exchange of information between individuals and organisations in population and related fields
  • To provide a forum for the discussion of population issues
  • To promote population research and education particularly in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region
